How DryMark Restoration Jersey City Was Born in Jersey City
We opened this branch in 2011 because we had spent the previous years watching restoration companies treat Jersey City like a zip code on a spreadsheet. The moment that broke something in us was a water loss in the Heights, a brownstone where the homeowner had already paid another crew to “dry it out.” They’d run fans for three days, packed up, and left. The walls were still wet. The meter proved it. But the invoice was paid, and the company was gone.
We were there doing a second opinion for the adjuster. The homeowner, a woman in her sixties who had refinanced to buy that place, stood in her kitchen and asked us, plain as anything, “How do I know anyone is telling me the truth?” We didn’t have a good answer. Not that day. But we made a decision walking back to the truck: if we ever ran our own operation, the customer would see the numbers. Every room. Every day. Signed, dated, and explained before anyone touched a tool. That is what DryMark Restoration meant when we brought it to Jersey City. Not a new brand. A standard that this city deserved.
Alicia Brennan’s Personal Connection to the Damage Restoration Trade
We got into this work sideways, through a summer job in college that was supposed to be temporary. A crew in Bayonne needed someone to carry dehumidifiers up stairs and keep the log sheets dry. The first basement we walked into was a sewage backup on a hundred-degree August day. The smell was overwhelming. But what stuck with us was the homeowner standing at the top of the stairs, arms crossed, watching us like we were all suspects. He had already been told three different stories by three different people.
That is what this work has always been about for us: the gap between what happened to someone’s home and what they are told happened. We started reading the meters ourselves, asking the senior tech why the readings moved or didn’t. Learned to trace a water path through wall cavities by the temperature differential on a thermal camera. The trade has a vocabulary most people never hear until disaster hits them: psychrometrics, vapor pressure, category of water, class of destruction. We fell in love with translating it. With handing a homeowner a sheet of paper that made the invisible visible.
If we were not doing this, we would probably be teaching. That sounds like a line, but it is true. The best part of any job is the walkthrough after, when we show someone their own dry readings and watch them understand, finally, that their house is actually okay. That they can stop sleeping in the living room. That the smell is gone because the moisture is gone, not because we sprayed something over it. We have been at this for over fifteen years now, and that moment has not gotten old.
What gets us out of bed is the certainty that someone in Jersey City is waking up to a wet floor, a sagging ceiling, a smell they cannot place, and they are about to meet an industry trained to confuse them. We get to be the alternative.
Meet Alicia Brennan - The Person Behind Every Job

Alicia Brennan is the Owner and Founder of DryMark Restoration Jersey City. She holds IICRC certification in water damage restoration and has completed advanced training in applied structural drying through the Restoration Industry Association. Before opening this branch, she spent years working losses across Hudson County, from high-rise pipe breaks in the Financial District to row house floods in the Bergen-Lafayette section.
What separates Alicia Brennan from a corporate franchise technician is simple: she lives here. Her commute home crosses the same bridges her crews take to reach jobs. She has stood in the same traffic on Newark Avenue, knows which basement apartments in Paulus Hook flood first in a driving rain, and has seen enough Jersey City building stock to guess the year of construction by the joist spacing. On weekends she runs the waterfront loop from Liberty State Park to Exchange Place. That loop is how she clears her head. It is also how she notices which storefronts have new plywood up, which means someone nearby probably needs help she has not heard about yet.
Our commitment to every customer is direct: Alicia Brennan reviews every written scope before it goes out, and your file does not close until the documentation is complete enough that an adjuster, a buyer, or a lawyer could read it and know exactly what was done.
Before
AfterOur Promise to Jersey City Homeowners
Our values are not posters on a wall. They are policies with consequences.
Honest pricing. We learned early that “we’ll bill your insurance” is how restoration companies hide numbers from homeowners. Our policy is Clause 1 of the Haven Standard: flat price, written scope, written warranty, before anyone starts. You see the full cost. You sign it. Then we work.
Quality equipment and methods. We specify Dri-Eaz dehumidifiers and air movers on jobs where the science demands it, not as a selling point. The right tool for the right class of loss. We document the placement with photos, and we adjust daily based on the readings, not the calendar.
Standing behind every job. In 2014 we had a callback in Hoboken, a commercial loss where the tenant reported a musty smell three weeks after we had signed off. Our readings had been dry. But smell is data too. We returned, found a missed cavity behind a built-in cabinet, corrected it at no charge, and changed our final walkthrough checklist to include a deliberate sniff test and tenant interview. That checklist is still in use.
Our Credentials

State-licensed. We hold the licenses New Jersey requires for restoration contractors operating in Hudson County and the surrounding metro area.
Insured and bonded. Coverage is maintained at the levels necessary for work in residential and commercial properties throughout our service area, including high-rise buildings in the Financial District and Midtown Manhattan.
Years of local experience. This branch has served Jersey City and the surrounding communities since 2011. Our team has handled losses in every neighborhood we serve, from basement floods in Kearny to smoke damage in Brooklyn Heights.
Strong local reputation. We are known among adjusters and property managers in Hudson County for documentation that holds up under scrutiny, and among homeowners for showing up when we said we would.
Why this matters to you: restoration work happens inside your home, often while you are displaced and stressed. A license means someone has verified our qualifications. Insurance means you are protected if something goes wrong. Local tenure means we know the building stock, the permit offices, and the adjusters who cover this territory. Reputation means we have something to lose if we disappoint you.
Every pro working under our name is required to hold the license and insurance their state requires. We do not send untrained labor into your home.
Rooted in Jersey City
This is not a satellite office managed from another state. Alicia Brennan lives here. Our crews know that a “Jersey City basement” can mean anything from a dirt-floored cellar under a pre-war two-family to a finished recreation room in a Newport high-rise with a concierge who logs every visitor. We have worked jobs within sight of the Colgate Clock, on streets where the parking authority is stricter than any building code, and in buildings where the super has been there thirty years and remembers every previous flood.
We serve Jersey City, Hoboken, Bayonne, Union City, Weehawken, and across to Brooklyn Heights, Williamsburg, and the Manhattan core neighborhoods where our customers commute. The same bridges and tunnels that connect this region also carry the humidity patterns, the aging infrastructure, and the shared risk of water and fire loss that we have spent fifteen years learning.
